Should I buy Spore? (SecuRom Problems)?

I was thinking about buying Spore but read a lot of negative reviews about Spore. Like the drm and SecuRom problems. I am not really concerned about the drm but want to know what the SecuRom actually does. Did Maxis/Ea get rid of either the drm or SecuRom on the latest versions of Spore? Is there any way to delete the SecuRom? Is it safe to keep SecuRom on my system? Thanks and ten pints for best answer. ;)
