How to fix couch recliner to recline?

We bought a micro suede couch, the ends are recliners. Well one recliner reclines all the way back but the other only goes half way back. We have flipped the couch over and looked at the back and have no idea how to fix it or even whats "technically" wrong with it. When i sit in it and push it back i feel the resistance on the back levers but have no idea what the mechanisms are called and have no idea how to fix it. There is alot of fabric underneath and behind the back flap of the couch i assume i will have to cut it open?!?!? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!!!
